  Introduction:

We have already seen in the "Walking through" section the various options for cutting the trailing edge. The following paragraph shows the use of each option with respect to the type of skin used (wood, glass fiber, or other).

Building with wood skinning :

The trailing edge output is going to be done diagonally in order to avoid any skinning distortion. this is done by activating the  icon.

The stages for a wood skin are as follows::

  • Example of a foam core within in the foam beds, including margins:
  • the core is then skinned and set under pressure:
  • When dry, you have to strip away the trailing edge margins
  • Take off the upper bed and then plane down the trailing edge
  • Sand the trailing edge to reach the desired shape.
  • The trailing edge is finished.
Depending on the method used for the leading edge, you may build a rolled on leading edge (Fig a) or an added leading edge (Fig b).

Fiberglass skinning:

The wire output at the trailing edge is still done diagonally to avoid skin distrortion. This is selected with the  icon. The following schematic shows a typical cut.

The leading edge cut will follow a slope in order to ease forming the skin around the LE.
