  Cutting a wing:
  • Principle:
After having configured your CNC machine and defined your cut project, you just have to actually proceed to the cut ! This menu concentrate all the data required to perform the cut, including building symetrical parts. If you want, by switching the 'Cut to file' field, the program will store the cut control data in an external file (format *.cut) rather than performing the cut. The (*.cut) file is able to be processed by the LitCut program which shows virtually the moves of the trolleys during the cut on screen.
  • Menu:
This menu is quite easy to understand. It includes a graphic area and fields for the parameters:
  • At the center of the window you find a diagram showing the position of the foam block (blue) laying on the table (blank). If you see nothing, check you table CNC configuration and your project. If you see a dotted (red) line, check the block position which is invalid.
For parameters, you should particulary notice:
  • The "Cut" area allows to choose which half wing to cut, and the cut sequence order.
  • Wire kerf compensation : the two types of compensation already described can be selected.
  • It is possible to trim the block directly above the leading and trailing edges.
  • The cut control data can be exported to a text file. In this cas, the trolleys are not activated.
  • The "Intermediate Section" selection allows to cut a trapezium in two parts, which is interesting for large wingspan models.
  • The Bloc Positionning parameters are required to compute the actual movements for X and Y axis trolleys. Refer to chapter  Principle : Block Position.
  • The wire kerf compensation parameters allows, as long as you know the wire kerf values at tip and root, to cut the airfoil section at its real size. With a small approximation on basic height, the vertical position of the cut may be adjusted at tip and root in order to have the remains height as a reference. Refer to .GP Diagram and foam cores.
  • The "Maximum Cut Speed" button may be used to know the maximum useable speed for the cut.
  • Block trimming (dressing) may be selected : without trimming, before, after or during the airfoil section cut.
  • Stages:
  1. Fill in the sheet for   Parameters and Définitions
  2. Leave your block positionned after it has been dressed up,
  3. Write down and/or verify the position values: Centering, X0 offset and Left Axis offset.
  4. Choose your parameters for wire kerf, speed and type of foam.
  5. Select which side of wing to cut (left or right ?),
  6. Then start the cut.
